Noah is three years old. His parents have recently separated and, with mum having to go to work now, he has started to go to nursery. Whilst he is keen to go there with his mum, as soon as she tries to leave, he becomes extremely upset, clinging to her and lashing out at any adult who tries to intervene. Typically, it takes around half an hour for him to begin to calm down after his mum has finally managed to leave. Staff will often find him by this point huddled in a corner, sucking his thumb and cuddling a soft toy. He shows little interest in playing with other children or participating in any of the activities. Based on attachment theory, what strategies can the nursery implement to support Noah and settle him onto the nursery and help him to integrate into nursery life?
